Supraglottic airway device insertion

  1. Select an appropriately-sized LMA (uses weight range printed on tube)
  2. Deflate the LMA cuff
  3. Lubricate the backplate of the tube
  4. Appropriately position patient (neck extended if possible)
  5. Correctly position self (at head of bed)
  6. Grasp LMA correctly (dominant hand index finger at angle created by intersection of cuff and tube)
  7. Insert LMA by running it along palate until in correct place
  8. Inflate cuff
  9. Ensure ability to bag through the LMA
